Eligibility Criteria For Canada Study Visa

General criteria for applications in Canada universities/Colleges are-
1. English Language Skills: All applicants are required to take a recognized English language skills tests like, IELTS / TOEFL are widely acceptable by the Canadian Universities / Institutions. PTE is also accepted in few Institutions.

(a) For Undergraduate Programs a minimum score of 6 IELTS Band is required in each section and a minimum score of 6.5 IELTS Band is required & for (b) Postgraduate Programs with a minimum score of 6.

Canada Student Visa Requirements

In order to study in Canada, student needs to obtain a Canadian study permit, which serves as a Canadian student visa for the duration of the stay. Study permit is not required if the program lasts six months or less.

(i) The Study Direct Stream (SDS) – provides a streamlined study application process for students with strong English or French language abilities who will enter into their program of study at a designated learning institution. SDS program is launched by Scotia bank.
(ii) General or Non SDS – is another category of student visa, where required documents and visa process will be different as more detailed documents are required. The reason for this is that financial stability and the source of income are strongly demonstrated

Part time work Opportunities

You do not need a separate Work Permit to work while studying in Canada. You can work on campus and off – campus on a valid study permit. Off campus, you can work for a term of up to 20 hours a week. In addition, you

Post study work permit–

International students graduating from Canadian universities are actively encouraged to take up employment in the country. The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program offers you a work permit for a period of time equal to the duration of your course, for a maximum of three years.

For instance, if you complete a one-year course in Canada, you will be granted a one year Post-Graduation Work Permit. With this type of work permit, you can work anywhere and switch jobs any time you like. You must apply within 90 days of graduating.

Permanent Residence–

The Canadian Experience Class (Express Entry) immigration program encourages international students graduating from Canadian universities to take up temporary residence, or even become permanent residents of the country.

To become a permanent resident of Canada, you need to have worked at least for one year in Canada with a valid work permit. For this to be valid, your job must qualify as a Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B occupation under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) systems.
